In potentially explosive atmosphere, the explosion can occur when three elements exist: Flammable and combustible substances, Comburents, Ignition source. The equipment in this environment is strictly required to have high safety certification to ensure that each stage operates accurately.

Here are explanation and example of different explosive zones:
• Zone0: gases/vapours in an explosive atmosphere is present continuously for long periods of time or will frequently occur.
• Zone1: gases/vapours in an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur occasionally in normal operation.
• Zone2: gases/vapours in an explosive atmosphere is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist for a short period only.
• C1D2: Ceritification ensures ATEx series Gases/vapours in an explosive atmosphere will not create sparks which could be detonated
• Zone20: Dusts in an explosive atmosphere is present continuously for long periods of time or will frequently occur.
• Zone21: Dusts in an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur occasionally in normal operation.
• Zone22: Dusts in an explosive atmosphere is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist for a short period only.
• C2D2/C3: Ceritification ensures ATEx series Dusts in an explosive atmosphere will not create sparks which could be detonated.
