The CNV-UNI fiber s media converter is equipped with a multi-interface circuit that can handle RS-232 or RS-422 or RS485 serial interfaces and single-mode fiber. CNV-Uni-Fiber-S converters are used to extend serial transmission up to 40 km. CNV-UNI fiber converters can be configured to convert either RS-232 signals or RS422 or RS485 signals, but not all at the same time.

Automatic Baud rate detection. The CNV-UNI fiber converters can automatically detect the serial baud rate. This is an extremely practical function, even if a unit's baud rate is changed, the signal will still be transmitted through the media converter without loss of data.

CNV-Uni-Fiber-S converters can be used to connect serial devices to a fiber ring. To form the ring, connect the TX port on a CNV-UNI fiber S to the RX port on a neighboring converter. When the ring is set up, simply use the DIP switches to configure the CNV-UNI fiber converters for "ring mode". When a "node" sends a signal, the signal moves around the ring until it returns to the transmit unit, which then blocks the signal. With CNV-Uni-Fiber-S you can set up fiber rings that have a total perimeter of up to 100 km.

Automatic data control is a patented hardware data flow solution for managing RS485 data control. It detects and controls the RS485 data automatically, making it unnecessary to use the handshake signal.
