Wireless connection between serial devices over long distances

With M485-RADIO-I, a wireless connection can be established between a central PC or PLC and all types of M485 modules up to 700 m, as cabling is replaced by radio connections between M485-RADIO-I modules. M485-RADIO-I can be used as a slave or as a master. From a master module, communication can be made with several different groups, each consisting of a slave M485-RADIO-I, which is connected to a number of common M485 modules, PLCs, PCs or other.

M485-RADIO-I can be used, for example, when measuring on portable equipment or in situations where it is impossible or impractical to use regular cabling.

Note that the M485-RADIO-I can also be used independently. For example, two PCs can communicate wirelessly with each other via the serial ports (full duplex), or one PC can communicate with several PLCs (half duplex).

Measuring systems with M485-RADIO-I and other M485 modules function in every respect like a normal cable-based network with M485 modules. From the PC or PLC, commands from the master module are sent out to all slave modules – and thus to all other modules. Only the module addressed by the command sends a response back, which then activates the transmitter in the connected slave module (M485-RADIO-I). In this way, conflicts are avoided, even if all radio modules transmit and receive on the same frequency.
