PoE supply voltage for clients via network cables as separate power supplies for example. surveillance cameras and serielportservere is unnecessary. PoE equipment is designed to receive the supply voltage via network cables. Often PoE also be supplied from an independent power supply. Cable lengths can restrict the use of PoE. A new standard called PoE Plus (IEEE 802.3at) can deliver more power than the current PoE standard (IEEE 802.3af). General info about midspan and endspan

PoE standard IEEE 802.3af allows the use of two types of power supply units: endspan and midspan. < p> A endspan unit (PoE switch) typically supplies power via the data leading wires of the network cables (pins 3 and 6, 1 and 2) and is available for 10 / 100Mbit and 10/100 / Ethernet 1000Mbit sources. A endspan unit is a combined midspan injector and switch. It is installed in place of an ordinary switch, if the connected network devices to be powered over the network

A midspan injector (hub) installed between a non PoE switch and the power consuming device. It is restricted to supply power through the unused pin pair (4, 5, 7 and 8) in a 10 / 100Mbit network.
