An analog modem converts the digital signals it receives from the local computer into audio analog signals which can be transmitted as electrical impulses over POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) to a computer or network. An analog modem was a standard device in most offices, portable PCs and at home. Unlike the digital modems we know today, zealot ISDN and FDDI run, which is a much lower bandwidth than the previous POTS.
